Abstract

This thesis is devoted to the comparative linguistic analysis of the term “mother” in English and мать in Russian. The study examines the lexical, semantic, etymological, morphological, stylistic, phraseological, and cultural features of these terms. The term mother belongs to the basic layer of kinship vocabulary and represents one of the most universal concepts in human language. However, despite its universal biological meaning, the concept of motherhood is expressed differently in English and Russian due to cultural, historical, emotional, and linguistic factors.
