Sud-tibbiy ekspertiza jarayonida o‘lim sababini aniqlash va huquqiy ahamiyatga ega bo‘lgan xulosani shakllantirishda gistologik tekshiruv muhim diagnostik vosita hisoblanadi. Ko‘plab hollarda makroskopik tekshiruv natijalari yakuniy xulosa chiqarish uchun yetarli bo‘lmaydi, ayniqsa antemortem va postmortem jarayonlarni farqlash, mexanik asfiksiya, bo‘g‘ilish, travmatik shikastlanishlar hamda reanimatsiya bilan bog‘liq o‘zgarishlarni baholashda. Gistologik tekshiruv to‘qimalardagi mikroskopik o‘zgarishlarni aniqlash orqali tiriklik belgilarini, reaktiv yallig‘lanish jarayonlarini va qon tomir reaksiyalarini ishonchli tasdiqlash imkonini beradi.
