Abstract

Peri-implantitis is among the most significant biological complications of dental implant therapy and is regarded as an inflammatory lesion of the tissues surrounding an implant in function, accompanied by progressive loss of supporting bone [1–4, 8, 12, 13]. Current concepts of its pathogenesis invoke an interplay of microbial, local, and systemic factors, and patient-specific characteristics may considerably modify the probability of the disease [5, 6, 7, 10, 17, 29].
