The legal regulation of complicity in crime constitutes one of the fundamental issues of contemporary criminal law. Its significance has increased considerably in the context of the growing complexity of collective, transnational and technologically facilitated criminal activity. Different legal systems have developed distinct approaches to co-perpetration, instigation, aiding and abetting, conspiracy, criminal groups and criminal associations, as well as to the liability of persons who establish, direct or participate in such structures.
