THE ROLE OF TOURISM IN UZBEKISTAN’S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Tourism has emerged as a vital sector in Uzbekistan’s efforts to diversify its economy and promote sustainable development. Rich in cultural heritage, historical landmarks, and unique natural landscapes, Uzbekistan holds significant potential to become a major tourist destination in Central Asia. This paper explores the contribution of the tourism industry to the national economy, including its role in generating employment, attracting foreign investment, boosting local businesses, and enhancing international visibility. Recent government reforms, visa liberalization, and infrastructure investments have accelerated the sector’s growth. However, challenges such as limited service quality, regional disparities, and environmental sustainability remain. By addressing these issues and continuing strategic development, tourism can play a transformative role in Uzbekistan’s long-term economic growth and global integration.
