DISCUSSION ON HOW DIFFERENT LANGUAGES USE METAPHORS
Keywords:
metaphor, abstract concepts, cognitive, linguistsAbstract
This article explores how different languages use metaphors to convey complex ideas and emotions. The author notes that not all languages use the same metaphors, and that this can reveal differences in cultural values and ways of seeing the world. For example, while English uses animal metaphors to describe emotions, Chinese may use more abstract concepts like weight or water. The article also discusses how different body parts can be used as metaphors, with Mandarin Chinese using different terms for physical attributes than English. Ultimately, the author argues that understanding these differences in metaphorical language can help us appreciate the diversity of cultures and gain new insights into how people see the world.
