Ushbu maqolada irodaning murakkab turlari, ularning bosqichlari hamda motivlar kurashi jarayoni tahlil qilinadi. Shuningdek, psixologiya tarixidagi intellektualizm va volyuntarizm yo‘nalishlari o‘rtasidagi farqlar hamda irodaning inson faoliyatidagi ahamiyati yoritib beriladi. Iroda insonning ongli ravishda qaror qabul qilishi va o‘z xatti-harakatlarini boshqarishida muhim psixologik omil hisoblanadi.
